Chobe National Park

Chobe National Park is Botswana’s first national park and one of Africa’s premier wildlife destinations, renowned for its spectacular landscapes, exceptional biodiversity, and some of the largest concentrations of wildlife on the continent. Located in the country’s north, the park covers more than 11,000 square kilometres and encompasses a variety of habitats, including riverfront woodlands, floodplains, grasslands, and the rugged wilderness of the Savuti region.
The park is perhaps best known for its immense elephant population, estimated to be one of the largest remaining free-ranging elephant populations in Africa. It is not uncommon to witness herds numbering in the hundreds gathering along the banks of the Chobe River, particularly during the dry season when wildlife congregates around this vital water source. These remarkable encounters provide unforgettable photographic opportunities and are a highlight of any visit to the park.
Beyond elephants, Chobe supports an extraordinary diversity of wildlife. Large herds of buffalo, zebra, and various antelope species roam the park, while predators such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, and spotted hyenas are regularly encountered. The legendary Savuti region is particularly famous for its dramatic predator-prey interactions and strong lion populations. The Chobe River also teems with hippos and crocodiles, while the park’s rich birdlife attracts birdwatchers from around the world, with more than 450 species recorded.
One of Chobe’s unique attractions is the opportunity to experience wildlife from both land and water. Traditional game drives offer excellent opportunities to explore the park’s diverse habitats, while boat safaris along the Chobe River provide a completely different perspective, allowing guests to observe animals as they come to drink, bathe, and interact along the shoreline.
With its remarkable wildlife densities, stunning scenery, and unforgettable safari experiences, Chobe National Park remains one of Botswana’s most iconic destinations and a true highlight of any African safari adventure.
